When Spike hurts his foot by stepping on a tack, Jerry pulls it out for him. Grateful, Spike repays him by giving him a bell, telling him to just ring it whenever he’s in trouble. Felling confident with the protecting, Jerry rings the bell when Tom comes after him again. Spike arrives in a flash and beats Tom up, forcing him to become Jerry’s servant. But when Tom reads in the newspaper about the new leash law for dogs, he snags this opportunity to get back at both Jerry and Spike.
