A day outside for Spike and Tyke turns ugly when a barbecue is ruined by Tom and Jerry. Jerry is hiding in the charcoal, while Tom tries to throw every bit of coal to find him when Spike finds him doing so. When he decides to scoop the coals, Jerry (inside a coal) screams in pain after being placed over a fire. Finally, some picnic ants steal all the food that Spike and Tyke have, and they are left without a father-son barbecue.
